My friend was exploring getting a tattoo and he wasn’t sure where he wanted it. He asked a tattoo shop if they would put the stencil transfer on and let him look at that for a day or so. The answer was a resounding NO! They said that they had been asked a lot in the past and none of the tattoo artists will do this. The artists do take a deposit, usually about $100 for the custom artwork.

Actually my friend was so turned off by their response. The attitude was, ‘look, if you need to do that, then you just aren’t ready for a tattoo.’ That was actually a quote, not just an attitude.

The problem is, Tattoo shops sometimes take an attitude that if you are timid or unsure, then you shouldn’t have a tattoo, but that is ridiculous. Getting a tattoo is a big decision, and a lot of smart people want to be sure of their design and location before they commit to it. There is nothing wrong with this, and it is too bad that tattoo shops can’t understand this and cater to this clientelle.

Their loss is my gain though, because that is one area of in which I excel. Not only will I help you to realize a design that you love, but I have some suggestions on how to try out your tattoo. The best solution that I can think of is to take the completed artwork that I have done for you and print it onto temporary tattoo paper. You can play with the size and the location until you are happy with what you are going to be putting on your body. In the end if you decide you aren’t ready for a full blown tattoo, well you always have the original artwork to use for temporary tattoos whenever you like.

I have found temporary tattoo paper at most of the stationary stores near my house that sell ink jet paper. You can go online and buy some here. This was a totally different type of temporary tattoo kit, but it looks quite good.

The other reason that people hire me to design tattoos for them is that they are very particular in what they want. They have a very good idea of what they want on their body and they don’t want to leave it up to a random tattoo artist at a tattoo shop. I will write more about that in a later post.

I know that is a strange question to begin a tattoo design website with, but it is an important first question. Quite realistically, when you decide that it is time to get a tattoo, there really is no good reason not to, as you can see here in Yahoo! Answers (I love this ‘best’ answer by the way). My favorite reason that I hear all the time is, ‘but it will look terrible when you are all old and wrinkly’. That one makes me laugh… When I am all old an wrinkly I think the least of my problems will be a wrinkly tattoo. It isn’t like I am going to be doing a modeling show, and if I am, then all the more reason to have a tattoo. In any case, if you aren’t ready for a tattoo, there are a million good reasons not to as well. Follow your heart on this and don’t do anything rash.

If you want a tattoo then there should be nothing stopping you. For many of us though, it isn’t that easy. We may not be sure either way, and certainly not sure enough to go into a tattoo shop and get them to working on it. In fact the question isn’t why not get a tattoo, rather, the real question is how much thought you are going to put into your tattoo. Remember, this tattoo is going to be a permanent part of you, so make sure you really think about what you want on your body and where you want it. As well, I cannot recommend spending some time and customizing it so that it really is part of you. I am sure there are some times that you would want to just go in and grab something off the wall, but I really can’t imagine many.

Here are some tips from MenFront.com to think about before getting a tattoo.

A better question might be, why shouldn’t you get a tattoo design? To that question, there really is no good answer. Go for it!
